It’s not every day you get a call to help transform the lives of young people in your local community. So, when DIY SOS knocked on our door, the answer was an immediate “yes.”
We are thrilled to announce our involvement in the recent DIY SOS “Big Build” for the Cherry Tree Youth Hub in Beverley. Hundreds of tradespeople, suppliers, and volunteers came together. The team built a permanent home for a youth group that had been operating out of a gazebo in a field since the pandemic. Safe to say, it was an emotional and ambitious project.
The stars of the show and the incredible end result take centre stage. That said, every major construction project relies on a foundation of essential logistics. This is where Addplant stepped in. We were proud to provide the “unseen basics” (the welfare facilities, power, and plant equipment). These kept this monumental effort moving forward.
Supporting the Build from Day One
The Cherry Tree Youth Hub project was a race against time. The goal was to turn a muddy field into a safe, warm, and inspiring space for local children in just nine days. The site needed to be prepped for the army of volunteers about to descend upon it. This was even before the cameras started rolling and the celebrity team arrived.
Addplant was one of the first companies to reach out and offer support. We were on board right from the start, well before the main build began.
The "Trades Briefing Day"
Before a single brick was laid, the DIY SOS team needed to meet with potential local suppliers and tradespeople to plan the attack. The site was effectively just an open field with no existing services. This meant they needed immediate infrastructure.
We provided a welfare unit completely free of charge for this initial “Trades Briefing Day.” This unit provided the necessary power, shelter, and toilet facilities. Such allowed the planning team to organise the logistics that would make the build possible.
Keeping the Site Running with the Unseen Basics
Once the “Big Build” officially kicked off, the site became a hive of activity. With hundreds of volunteers, having reliable facilities was non-negotiable. These volunteers included the DIY SOS team and stars from Gladiators.
We provided the toilets for the entire site, ensuring the workforce had clean and functioning facilities. This extended throughout the intense build schedule. Our team was on-site every morning at 6:00 am to service the units before the volunteers arrived. We pride ourselves on being the first on-site and the last to leave, ensuring the basics are covered so the tradespeople can focus on the job at hand.
While toilets might not be the most glamorous part of a TV makeover show, any site manager will tell you they are the most critical. Without them, the project grinds to a halt.
Heavy Lifting in Tight Spaces
Beyond welfare facilities, Addplant also provided essential plant equipment. This was to help with the heavy lifting.
One of the biggest technical challenges of the build was connecting the new hub to the sewerage system. This required digging up neighbouring gardens to lay over 1,000 meters of cabling and pipework. It was a tight, tricky job that required precision machinery.
If you caught the episode, you might have spotted one of our diggers in action (around the 29-minute mark). Our equipment was crucial for navigating these tight spots. It helped the groundworks team get the utilities connected on time.

A Community Effort
The Cherry Tree Youth Hub had been without a permanent home since COVID-19, forcing them to meet in a local park even during harsh winter weather. Seeing the community come together to build them a warm, safe facility was incredibly moving. The facility was complete with a kitchen, breakout room, and stage.
We were delighted to see the stars of Gladiators getting stuck in alongside the local trades. It was a genuine community effort, and for us at Addplant, it was personal. This project is in a place close to our hearts. Being able to donate our equipment and services to help disadvantaged young people in Beverley was a privilege.
Building for the Future
The new hub is now open, offering a lifeline to hundreds of young people in East Yorkshire. We are incredibly proud to have played our part in making it happen. Addplant was there to ensure the job got done. This is whether it was the early morning service runs, the welfare units for the planning meetings, or the excavators digging the trenches.
The episode aired on Tuesday, 30 December 2025. If you missed it, you can catch it on BBC iPlayer.
Whether you’re working on a construction site, an event, or a community initiative, we’re here to help. Rest assured, we handle everything with reliability and care. So, if you are planning a project and need the “unseen basics”, get in touch with the Addplant team today.
